Kate Spade is another one of my favorite designers.
Kate Spade is a fashion designer but also a very successful business woman. Kate Spade was born Katherine Noel Brosnahan on December 24, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Arizona State, and in 1985, Kate Spade earned her degree in journalism. At the age of only twenty-three, she then went to work for Mademoiselle magazine in New York City. New York City is one of my favorite places in the United States of America! I love the fashion feel and the fast pace that goes on there. Kate Spade spent five years in New York City working for Mademoiselle. In the five years of working for Mademoiselle, Kate Spade worked her way up to senior fashion editor as well as she was the head of accessories. It wasn’t until 1991 where Kate Spade went to pursue her dream of designing her own unique fashion line.
In 1993, Kate Spade then went on to designing handbags. This was her first big hit in the fashion industry. Her handbag designs was just the beginning of her collection. Kate Spade didn’t stop here, she then went on to take it to the next step! In the Kate Spade collection, she now offers women’s ready-to-wear, sunglasses, purses, wallets, sunglasses, and many more accessories! Kate Spade was not stopping until she was at the top in the fashion industry!
Something that I think is interesting about the Kate Spade line is that Kate and her husband came up with all the ideas together. I think that is interesting because it doesn’t offer any mens items. Her husband, Andy Spade served as her partner, and together they expanded the line exceptionally. I believe they made a great team, and their designs truly shows their passion for fashion. The couple welcomed their child, Frances Beatrix Spade, in February of 2005. After having their child, they sold their brand so they could focus on raising their child. They built the brand up from the bottom, and felt it was necessary to start focusing on their family.
Along with Michael Kors who I spoke about on my last blog, Kate Spade also is extremely relatable. Kate Spade made her line affordable to not just super rich individuals. There are items in her collection that are completely out of my price range, but then Kate made it so that middle class individuals could shop her collections. People aren’t kidding when they say you are broke in college. Being a college student, I love that I can still be fashionable and still have some money in my pocket!
Kate Spade is a fashion icon, her designs are chic, trendy, and yet affordable!
